Just In: Frenkie de Jong 'will not leave Barcelona in January'

According to reports, Frenkie de Jong has absolutely no plans to even consider moving clubs when his contract with Barcelona expires in 2023. The international player from the Netherlands was closely connected with a move away from Camp Nou during the course of the summer. People think that Manchester United tried to sign him for most of the transfer window.

But De Jong made it clear more than once that he wanted to keep playing for Barcelona, and he has been a key player for the team this season, making 15 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old was mostly passed over for starts early on in the season, but he has now been in Barcelona's starting XI in each of the club's past four La Liga matches.

There is still a lot of speculation about the future of the Dutchman because Barcelona still has money problems, which have gotten worse since they didn't make it to the knockout round of the Champions League.

It would appear that De Jong is seen as a player who is capable of commanding a big transfer fee, since it has been reported that Manchester United were willing to pay more than £70 million to get his services during the summer.

In the meantime, the large salary of the midfielder is presenting issues for Xavi's team, which has two more league games against Almeria and Osasuna before the season breaks for the World Cup.

After coming to terms with the fact that they would not be able to get De Jong to Old Trafford, Manchester United ultimately shifted their focus to Casemiro toward the end of the summer transfer season.

On the other hand, it is common knowledge that the 20-time English champions continue to have an interest in the Dutchman and that they might consider making another bid in 2023.

Sport says that despite all the rumors and speculation, De Jong has said that he has no plans to look at any of the possible offers for his services in the month of January.

According to the source, the Dutchman is continuing to ignore the chatter surrounding his future while his dream is still to have long-term success with the Catalan giants. This is despite the fact that he is aware of the talk.

As well as Manchester United, Chelsea are also rumored to be interested in signing the former Ajax youth player. The Blues are expected to be looking for at least one new midfielder during the summer of 2019, as N'Golo Kante is expected to leave the club.

In the meantime, Bayern Munich, who won the Bundesliga last season, have been credited with an interest in the player and have been linked with a move for his services as the final phases of the summer transfer window approach.

De Jong was a starter for the entirety of Barcelona's 1-0 victory over Valencia in La Liga on Saturday, and he will be traveling with the team to face Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Tuesday. De Jong also played the entire match.

Since joining Blaugrana from Ajax in 2019, the midfielder has played 155 times for the club, contributing 14 goals and 18 assists to the team's total tally.
