David de Gea's current contract status at Old Trafford has been brought up as a potential topic of discussion by Erik ten Hag, the head coach of Manchester United. According to ten Hag, this discussion could take place during the World Cup.The 31-year-old defender has appeared in all 17 of Manchester United's games during the 2022–2023 season, compiling eight clean sheets in the process. He contributed to a clean sheet in Man United's 1-0 win over West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday.

De Gea was in outstanding form against the Hammers, making three late saves to deny Michail Antonio, Kurt Zouma, and Declan Rice during a good time for David Moyes's side. But De Gea was able to keep the Hammers from scoring.

The goalkeeper's current contract with the club, which has won the English title a record 20 times, is set to expire at the end of June, so there is a great lot of uncertainty around his future at Old Trafford.

There have been rumors that Manchester United wants to sign a new long-term number one goalkeeper, even though they have the option to extend his contract for another year.

Several goalkeepers, like Diogo Costa of Porto and Unai Simon of Athletic Bilbao, have been said to be interested in moving to Old Trafford. However, Ten Hag has given some signs that David de Gea will stay with the club.

It is anticipated that the goalie will not be included in the Spain squad that will compete in the World Cup. As a result, conversations regarding the goalkeeper's contract may take place during the tournament, which will begin in one month.

"In the background, we are formulating our plans for how to cope with it," she said. It should come as no surprise, and I have already emphasized it quite a few times, but David has earned a lot of my satisfaction. He is an outstanding goalie in goal.

He is just 31 years old. He has a healthy body. Even further advancement is possible for him. He has already been incredibly good for Manchester United, and I believe that he will continue to be that way in the future.

Ten Hag has also refuted the notion that he does not feel De Gea possesses the ball-playing talents necessary to flourish in his system. This notion has been circulating.

According to a rumor that was published not too long ago, if De Gea wants to sign a new long-term contract with Manchester United, he would have to be willing to take a significant pay drop.

The former youth player for Atletico Madrid has recently said that he wants to keep playing for the Red Devils at Old Trafford "for more years." He has already played 504 times for the Red Devils in all competitions.
